The union representing film crews has struck a deal with the major studios allowing the use of Artificial Intelligence as a tool in moviemaking.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) agreed terms different from deals made by SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild in settling the 2023 strikes.
These terms go further because this union represents a far wider range of crafts, including everything from editing to hairstyling and cinematography.
Nearly FOUR months of talks were held before agreement was reached on a deal that includes relatively few limitations on AI use.
Under the terms of the agreement, AI skills training will be made available to workers and AI use cannot be outsourced to non-union labor.
