An extremely rare screening of the original print of 1977’s Star Wars – without George Lucas’s later changes – left many audience members unimpressed.
One critic at the British Film Institute’s London screening said the unaltered original “looks terrible” by modern standards.
Fans long critical of Lucas’s re-edits left the event admitting the film benefited from those updates. The audience erupted when Han Solo shot first in his iconic stand-off with Greedo – a scene later altered in subsequent versions.
