NEW GOLDEN AGE OF CINEMA AHEAD SAYS COPPOLA

Barbenheimer is a turning point in the history of cinema, according to Francis Ford Coppola.

The Godfather director says the huge box office numbers for Barbie and Oppenheimer has opened up a path to sustained success for movie theaters.

“The fact that people are filling big theaters to see them and that they are neither sequels not prequels, no number attached to them, meaning they are true one-offs, is a victory for cinema,” he wrote on Instagram.

Coppola believes this all adds to an exciting future for the exhibition industry, adding: “My hunch is that we’re on the verge of a golden age. Wonderful and illuminating cinema seen in large theaters.”

He certainly hopes to keep the momentum going with his next film, the long-planned passion project Megalopolis starring Adam Driver, which is said to be a futuristic epic full of big screen spectacle.
