Madam President

Prolific producer Lynette Howell Taylor has been elected as the new president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

She has produced more than 25 films over 20 years including A Star Is Born, Blue Valentine and The Accountant, as well as co-producing the 2020 Oscars ceremony in which Parasite became the first non-English-language Best Picture winner.

The Englishwoman is only the fifth female in Oscars history to get the top job and the first in decades born outside the United States.

She succeeds Janet Yang, who led the Academy for three years but was required by term limits to step down.

“Lynette has been a vital part of the Academy Board of Governors for many years, most recently revitalizing our awards work as chair of the Awards Committee,” Academy CEO Bill Kramer said. “I look forward to working with her as our new president.”
