Alain Delon (1935–2024)
“If there’s one thing in this world that I’m really proud of – it’s my career.”
Those were the words of French film icon Alain Delon when receiving an honorary Palm d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.
And what a legacy that is for the dashing star, who passed away in August 2024 aged 88.
Delon—a former cover star of this magazine—made over 100 films including some of the greatest European movies of the ’60s and ’70s.
The smoldering actor was sought after by auteur directors and won the respect of the global industry for a long career of performances that combined toughness with vulnerability.
Having suffered from poor health in recent years, he passed away at home in France surrounded by his three children and other family members.
French President Emmanuel Macron declared: “He was more than a star: he was a French monument.”
